I've been really enjoying The Cho Show on VH1 and had to drop her a bit of love. Love her comedy and her honesty.

Wildstorm: Team 7

I've been a huge fan of Wildstorm Comics since I was 14. Jim Lee, Dan Norton, Brett Booth, J. Scott Campbell, Matt Broome, Ryan Benjamin, and Whilce Portacio are my comic artist heroes. This picture illustrates Team 7 (Deathblow, Backlash, Grifter, Dane and Lynch) in a current state within the universe. I had a complete blast drawing and coloring this piece and want to take the time to show some more love to these amazing characters soon!

biofuels - a smart creativity

I had no idea how close we were to actually seeing some biofuels used in our vehicles, but perhaps we are only a few years off! Check out this very cool Bug Poo Blog Entry from the 11th Hour Action blog. And then the actual company website LS9.

I am ready to vote for this kind of creative thinking by laying my dollar down for this sort of product when it is available. If you know of more ideas or products that promote a smarter way of producing consumer goods by all means please let me know and I would love to promote and or buy the finest green ideas out there!

Top 3: Tips for Future Art School Students

(A Color and Design project from my first year at art school.)

These are just a few things I wish I truly did before attending Ringling since it is that time of year!

1. Take every non-art course you can at a jr. college before or during summers while attending art school. Take the jr. college catalog to your future art school counselor and let them help you pick. I wish I had done this because it means more time for art during the semesters!

2. Draw from life. Force yourself to just do this before you get there. Be ready when you walk in so your prof can push you to new levels instead of pushing you to ones that probably could have gotten to on your own. Hey and it really would not hurt to actually bring some personal challenging objects to draw with you. I need to do the same. A draw from life sketchbook is in my future as well!

3. Make sure your alarm clock works at all times. I slept through a final and lost out on major grade points. If its the one you have had for years...I took the one I grew up with. Big mistake. Get a new alarm clock.

Thats it, have fun, draw, draw, draw...from life when you can and the best of luck to every grad out there!

Top 3: T-Shirts May 2008

I present the results of my online t-shirt search (the web is really big, if I missed your hidden design...let me know about it and I will check it out!)
1. Here we have Saccade from Tank Theory and UK artist James Roper. Tank Theory got me inspired to do my own t-shirts and this design by James is the kind of thinking that really inspires me in my own work!

2. Alex Pardee nabs my number 2 spot. His use of ink and line is truly keen. It drips off of the shirt, page, or whatever he's working on. Go see more of his shirts at his shop.

3. O'Neill has someone in the ranks that arranged this Serpent t-shirt. Whoever did the origional details on those waves, simply well done! This also looks like one of those shirts that I would put on every Saturday morning.

Thanks for reading and hope to find more items for my Top 3 to share soon! -Brett

Illustration Friday: Homage

When one asks to show respect to someone in my life it starts with my parents. The illustration shows their bright energy lifting off togethor into the sky. They bring light to many people with their work. They both worked for NASA (dad still does), but it doesn't stop there. They used to run an appliance business and work as a team to get my dad moving on a service call or delivery. My dad even took it a step further and posted his knowledge online for people to fix it themselves...and they did! My mom uses her spare time to fix the neighbors and friend's tax headaches with her accounting skills. Of course they got my sister and I involved early on to get a little work ethic in our systems. I would work with my parents in a heart beat, they are as fair as you get and giving when it is the most needed.

Biking Demon

My sister is training for the MS150...a 170 mile bike ride from Houston to Austin, benefiting the MS Lone Star Chapter. She asked me to create a design for her jersey. Since she a loyal member of Team DP, I got right on it and wanted to share the result.

"Serenity" - Godsmack

I have very fond memories of seeing Godsmack from a small theatre to the Hard Rock in Orlando. I was looking through the 10 Years songs and picked up on Serenity. Let the song hum in my brain and I came up with the imagery above. This soul being grasped connected to a half up-rooted tree trying to reconnect with his surroundings.

Illustration Friday: 100%

When thinking of 100%, I have always felt 100% and dedicated to drawing. Art is so huge in my life and never want to stop. So this a free flow sketch with the word dedicated. There were no goals in mind, but simply to draw and use the forms I love to doodle.
